Our Volunteers Are About to Get Some Love

Our Volunteers Are About to Get Some Love

Management of volunteers has been, well, piecemeal up until now. I’ve done what I can to connect with many of you, but there have been more last-minute ‘bail-us-out’ emails than I’d like because I haven’t been able to focus on filling shifts as much as is needed. Every once and a while, I’ve dropped a ball. Or two. Forgot to fill shifts. Double filled shifts. You, our volunteers, have been resilient. Reliable. Remarkable. You deserve better.

Monarch Butterfly

Monarch Butterfly

This room feels darker than the other ones. More silent and spacious and private. I have wrappedthe wire of a paper Monarch butterfly around the smooth tubes of the bedframe at the back of her bed.  A tower of origami pagodas that my youngest son has folded to pass the time, sits at a slight angle upon the corner table. To the right of the bed is a big window with a tree filled urban view. On the window ledge are two watercolour wooded landscapes. If she had her choice, I know my mother would have left this world from a deeper wilderness.

Website Wednesday Shines a Light on You

Website Wednesday Shines a Light on You

Today I want to shine the spotlight on you. Or us. Since we began this journey called Website Wednesdays, many of you have jumped in and launched your own artist website. Many of you have been using Squarespace to do this. Like me. I want to show our sites off

OPEN WALLS Covered by CBC Edmonton

OPEN WALLS Covered by CBC Edmonton

Isabelle Gallant and her team have done a wonderful job finding our most beautiful threads, and they have shared their work online. Like the best coverage, this story makes me feel as good as I ever have about what we're up to with this show. About our role in this city. About the part I get to play in all of this.

Thank you, Isabelle, for not only hearing but listening. It shows.

Here are eleven little lights for this eleventh month. Eleven quotes from eleven creative voices. May each bring you hope this morning.

More is More in Keith Walker’s New Hot Glass Show

More is More in Keith Walker’s New Hot Glass Show

I show up early for a private viewing of LESS IS MORE, Keith Walker’s new show at the Alberta Craft Council Discovery Gallery. My first discovery is that this gallery is upstairs, not downstairs where I thought. There, in the feature gallery, is another show well worth viewing, MASTERWORKS

My second discovery is that the name LESS IS MORE is misleading. LESS doesn’t factor into this work in any way at first blush. There is plenty going on here, and it’s going to take me a while to digest it all.
